Come explore Down East Maine where you ride up the coast, to get to Down East... Yep, up the coast to get down. In the narrowest sense, Down East refers to the coast of Maine from Penobscot Bay to the Canadian border.
Grab your camera and get ready for an adventurous ride along the coast. Smell the salty air while taking in the surrounding scenery. Lobster, lighthouses, Acadia National Park, and Passamaquoddy Bay are well-known to the region. The area boasts some of the most dramatic coastlines in New England with quaint villages, natural wonders, great shopping and a wide range of restaurants with fresh, local seafood straight off the boat and plenty of accommodations.
Coastal activities are endless with whale excursions, sailing, sea kayaking and sightseeing. The interior lakes offer canoeing, fishing and camping, while local trails offer hiking and biking along the waters edge. Ride to nearby Quoddy Point Light, the easternmost lighthouse in the U.S., or ride to Campobello in Canada where Franklin D. Roosevelt spent his summers. Today Roosevelt Campobello International Park serves as a memorial to FDR and a symbol of cooperation between the U.S. and Canada.
Whether you prefer the lapping of the waves, activities of these small towns or the thrill of seeing nature up close, you'll find that Down East and Acadia offers that and more!
